Alaric "The White Lion of Guyenne"
Arise A Knight
Weapon: Full Blade
“Courage is not defined by those who fought and did not fall. It is defined by those who fought, fell, and rose again. Let Saris know THIS DAY tomorrow’s ashes will not settle on bodies of RIGHTEOUS MEN!”
- White Lion of Guyenne
The third of King Mageta III’s legitimate sons, Alaric [Ahloric] was never expected to accede to the throne. He was, however, the favourite son of his mother, Eleanor of Guyenne [Guiana]. Although born in Tal’Umbra on diplomatic envoy, he soon came to know Lorban’Teras as his home. When his parents effectively separated, he remained in Eleanor’s care, and was heavily invested with the Duchy of Guyenne. This was his consolation prize for the fact that his eldest brother, Saris “the Godhand” was simultaneously crowned as his father’s successor. Alaric and his other brother, Erik, duke of Corsica, thus learned how to defend their property while still teenagers.
As well as being an educated man, able to compose poetry in Old Common, Alaric was also a magnificent physical specimen, his height is estimated at six feet four inches (1.93 m) tall, and gloried in military activity. From an early age he appeared to have significant political and military abilities, became noted for his chivalry and courage, and soon was able to control the unruly nobles of his territory. As with all the true-born sons of Mageta III, Alaric had limited respect for his other brothers and lacked foresight and a sense of responsibility.
In 1173, Alaric initiated an affair with Lily Le Blanc. So enamored by her beauty the hot-blooded teenager was easily coerced to wage war on his brother Erik for Corsican lands. As armies of both kins clashed, Mageta, enraged by his sons, rode to battle against them and even Alaric was unable to hold out against the might of Mageta’s Knight Elite; though,in the end, he refused to fight him face to face and humbly begged his pardon. In 1174, after the end of the War, Alaric, humbled, gave a new oath of subservience to his father. Mageta stripped him of his lands and gave them to Saris for temporary ruleship and forced Alaric into grunt service to the Knight Elite.
